At Représentable, you’ll now find the artisanal porcelain by J.C. Herman Ceramics – tableware with character, crafted from delicate yet durable 'Porcelaine Royale' clay. Each piece is hand-thrown by ceramicist and founder Herman Verhagen, who mastered his craft under the guidance of Hu Shifu Xiao in Jingdezhen – the Chinese city where porcelain was first invented.
Hand-thrown porcelain is rare. It requires patience, precision, and years of training – along with the right clay. That’s what makes J.C. Herman’s work so exceptional. Minimalist and pure, with visible traces of craftsmanship. Each piece tells its own story – from its Chinese roots to Herman’s Dutch workshop.
The history runs deep. In 1712, missionary François Xavier d’Entrecolles wrote a letter from Jingdezhen revealing the long-guarded porcelain recipe and sent it to Europe. He was two years late – alchemist Böttger had already cracked the code in Meissen, Germany. Still, the letter played a key role in the rise of European porcelain, particularly in France.
J.C. Herman Ceramics is a tribute to that long legacy – and a rare example of modern-day craftsmanship.
Now available at Représentable – for those who appreciate porcelain with a story.
